WCW NITRO
TRADING CARD GAME

HARDCORE EXPANSION SPOILERS
(Rare Cards)

This page contains spoilers and commentary for the complete set of Rare cards found in the Hardcore expansion set for the WCW Nitro Trading Card Game.

The "N/A/D" column lists the Nitro cost, Action Point cost, and Damage for each card.

Card #
Title
Rarity Type N/A/D Card Text
17/114
4 Percent Body Fat
Rare Thunder - H: Discard this card to stop 1 damage from this attack.
D: You may discard 1 Nitro card from your corner. If you do, remove this card from the round and shuffle up to 3 cards from your discard pile into your deck.
My comments: Kind of a poor man's Second Wind. If you play a Nitro-heavy deck, this card might be useful since the discard requirement wouldn't hurt too much. This card will require some thought before including it.
***Update: Designer Mike Fitzgerald has said that his intent was to have this card take effect after the attack, but that the text reads such that the cards could be returned to the deck immediately.
18/114
Berlyn's Neckbreaker
Rare Yellow 8/3/14 Only Berlyn may use this card. If none of the damage from this card is stopped, you may play a Continue after this attack.
My comments: Berlyn gets a strong finisher.
19/114
Bret Shows His True Allegiance
Rare White
Corner
4/2/- Only Bret Hart may use this card. Ignore Pins played by other players.
My comments: Excellent benefit given the strength of Pin decks.
20/114
Brian is the Nasty Boy
Rare Orange 4/2/6 Only Brian Knobs may use this card. Does +2 damage for each Weapon in your corner and is illegal.
My comments: A stronger version of DDP's Rapid-Fire Punches. With Knobs' special ability to ignore a DQ, he can freely use this card as he chooses.
21/114
Brian's Boot Camp Training
Rare White
Corner
4/0/- Only Brian Knobs may use this card. Each of your Orange attacks requires one less Nitro.
My comments: It could help if combined with other cards which reduce the cost of Orange attacks.
22/114
Disco, Manager of Champions
Rare White 2/1/- Only Disco Inferno may use this card. You may get from your discard pile a Wrestler card that is not already in play and put it into your corner.
My comments: This card will only be useful if you use Disco Inferno as an interference deck.
23/114
Hogan's F.U.N.B.
Rare Thunder - Only Hogan may use this card. H: Discard this card during your turn to draw 1 card. (This doesn't cost any Action Points.)
D: For each card that comes up from your deck for the rest of this attack, you gain 1 Action Point for your next turn.
My comments: This card's benefit could be very powerful! Can you imagine Hogan turning up this card early while resolving a 10-15 point attack? Can you picture the carnage he could wreak with 10-15 extra Action Points in his next turn? OUCH! This has the potential to be even more devastating than Crowd Chants "Goldberg".
24/114
Hogan's Leg Drop
Rare Green 8/3/13 Only Hogan may use this card. If none of the damage from this card is stopped, you may play a Pin after this attack.
My comments: The most (in)famous finisher in wrestling history.
25/114
Jealousy among the Nitro Girls
Rare White
Corner
1/1/- Unique cards require 2 more Nitro.
My comments: This may delay the play of many Unique cards, but won't prevent them.
26/114
Jeff, Charter Member of the New Blood
Rare White
Corner
4/2/- Only Jeff Jarrett may use this card. No player may play Continue cards against you this round.
My comments: A good card which will help Jarrett get a leg up against submission decks (primarily Sting).
27/114
Kevin Nash Joins the Millionaire's Club
Rare White
Corner
7/3/- Only Kevin Nash may use this card. If you lose this round, the other player only gets 1 point.
My comments: This will make it easier for Nash to win matches against any opponent who has a Rep of 5 or less.
28/114
More New Blood
Rare White 3/1/- Search your deck and choose a Wrestler card. Put that Wrestler card into your corner, then shuffle your deck.
My comments: Help for interference decks. Recycle this one with Instant Replay and get all of your buddies into your corner.
29/114
No-Nonsense Man
Rare Thunder - Only Tank Abbott may use this card. H: Discard this card during your turn to draw 1 card. (This doesn't cost any Action Points.)
D: After this attack, you may take up to 2 of the cards that came up from your deck after this card and put them in your hand.
My comments: This could be a good way for Tank to get good cards into his hand, but I wouldn't rely on it.
30/114
Norman's Big Wiggle
Rare Thunder - Only Norman Smiley may use this card. H: Discard this card to stop 1 damage from this attack.
D: Put this card into your corner. You may discard it from your corner as a Dodge to stop all damage from one attack.
My comments: A Thunder version of "Practiced Dodge". Could be useful for a defense-oriented deck since you won't have to pay the normal cost of playing that card into your corner.
31/114
One for the KidmanCam
Rare Blue 6/2/7 Only Kidman may use this card. You may play this card only if the action is out of the ring.
My comments: Kidman becomes stronger outside the ring.
32/114
Pretty Evil
Rare White
Corner
1/1/- Unique. When you play an Attack card, you may discard this card and any number of Nitro cards from your corner. If you do, that attack does +1 damage for each Nitro card you discarded.
My comments: This appears to be a card one would use only for a "last resort" attack at the end of the game.
33/114
Rey's Bronco Buster
Rare Green 3/3/9 Only Rey Mysterio may use this card. Ignore Dodges for this attack.
My comments: A very strong addition to Rey-Rey's deck and a prime candidate for recycling with Instant Replay. This displaces Bear Hug as the best inexpensive Attack card.
34/114
Ric Is the Dirtiest Player in the Game
Rare Thunder - Only Ric Flair may use this card. H: Play this card with an orange Attack card. That attack does +2 damage.
D: Put this card into your corner. While this card is in play, the referee is distracted.
My comments: One of the rare Thunders which seems to be better from the hand than from the deck.
35/114
Ric's Chops to the Chest
Rare Green 4/1/5 Only Ric Flair may use this card. Does +2 damage if you've already played a Punch this turn.
My comments: Remember to yell "WHOOOOO!!" when you play this one!
36/114
Ric's Figure-Four Leg-Lock
Rare Yellow 8/3/14 Only Ric Flair may use this card. If none of the damage from this card is stopped, you may play a Continue after this attack.
My comments: Now, we go to school!
37/114
Screamin' Norman
Rare Orange 8/3/14 Only Norman Smiley may use this card. If none of the damage from this card is stopped, you may play a Pin after this attack.
  My comments: Standard finisher.
38/114
Sid Wins the World Title
Rare White 6/3/- Only Sid Vicious may use this card. Remove this card from the round. The other player discards his or her hand and redraws as many cards as he or she discarded.
My comments: A real killer if Sid's opponent is hoarding cards to set up a big combo attack. Not only will he take big damage, but he'll also lose all the cards he was saving up and he'll have to spend a few turns rebuilding.
39/114
Steiner Recliner
Rare Yellow 8/3/14 Only "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner may use this card. If none of the damage from this card is stopped, you may play a Pin after this attack.
My comments: Standard finishing maneuver, but the card text may have an error. It reads that this card has the Pin provision, but it would seem to make more sense for this Move to have the Continue provision. After all, it is a Yellow card and Steiner never actually pins anybody with this finisher.
***Update: WCW designer Mike Fitzgerald has confirmed that this card should have the Continue provision instead of Pin.
40/114
Steiner, Genetic Freak
Rare Thunder - Only "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner may use this card. H: Play this card with an orange Attack card. That attack does +2 damage. D: You may randomly discard 1 card from your hand. If you do, put this card into your corner. You may discard this card during your turn to take the action out of the ring until that turn ends.
My comments: Both abilities are excellent! From the hand, it's the equivalent of DDP Gets Help from Kimberly. As a corner card, it allows playing dangerous out of the ring attacks at any time without spending Action Points on a Move card to take the action out of the ring. With some "out of the ring" cards costing only 1 AP to play and still causing big damage, the chance to use this card to play up to three of them could be a game-breaker. This card may single-handedly make Steiner decks very tough.
41/114
Sting Gains Momentum
Rare Thunder - Only Sting may use this card. H: Play this card with an attack card. That attack does +1 damage.
D: You may randomly discard 1 card from your hand. If you do, after this attack, the other player takes damage equal to the number on the next attack card that comes up from your deck, after this card, during this attack.
My comments: A bit of a crapshoot, but it could turn out badly for Sting's opponent.
42/114
Tank's Knockout Punch
Rare Orange 6/1/5 Only Tank Abbott may use this card. You may use Weapons with this attack. If none of the damage from this card is stopped, you may play a Pin card after this attack.
My comments: The Pin provision turns an otherwise mediocre finisher into a potentially dangerous card.
43/114
Terry Is Middle-Aged and Crazy
Rare White
Corner
4/2/- Only Terry Funk may use this card. You may discard this card from your corner to put 2 Weapons from your discard pile into your corner.
My comments: Pretty self-explanatory and obvious use. Bring back the plunder!
44/114
Terry Is the Hardcore Icon
Rare White
Corner
5/2/- Only Terry Funk may use this card. If the action is out of the ring, you may ignore DQs and the referee is distracted.
My comments: Great card which makes the powerful "out of the ring" weapons easier and safer to use.
45/114
TTP's Elizabeth
Rare White
Corner
3/1/- Only TTP may use this card. On your turn, you may spend 1 Action Point to reveal the top card on your deck. If it is a Nitro card, ignore Dodges and Reversals during your next attack this turn.
My comments: Interesting and potentially useful. The only problem will be how to make the best use of its ability. The obvious answer would be to use Larry Zybysko to help put a Nitro card on top of your deck, so you could then reveal it and gain the benefit of this card. But, that will cost you 2 APs and force you to use an Attack card which only requires 1 AP. There are, of course, a few which will work (Snap Suplex comes immediately to mind as the best choice). For those who already play TTP as a technical deck, this card might be a good addition.
46/114
Vampiro Turns on Sting
Rare White
Corner
1/1/- Only Vampiro may use this card. Each Orange attack you play does +1 damage.
My comments: Every little bit helps. Combine this with Vampiro's "Red Liquid" and the balance of attack power can shift strongly in Vampiro's favor.
47/114
Vampiro's Knee-Drop
Rare Orange 7/1/7 Only Vampiro may use this card. Ignore Dodges for this attack.
My comments: Roughly comparable to Scott's Abdominal Stretch, but the ability to ignore Dodges should make this card a bit stronger.
48/114
Vampiro's "Red Liquid"
Rare White
Corner
4/1/- Only Vampiro may use this card. Each attack the other player plays does -1 damage.
My comments: Every little bit helps. Combine this with Vampiro Turns on Sting and the balance of attack power can shift strongly in Vampiro's favor.
49/114
Years of Experience
Rare Thunder - H: Discard this card during your turn to draw 1 card (This doesn't cost any Action Points.)
D: The next card that comes up from your deck during this attack goes into your hand.
My comments: Free cards are always good.
