"LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS"

Boldfaced statements are parts of the original essay (or a subsequent reply) to which the respondent has directed his comments.

Italicized/emphasized comments
prefaced by (R) are those of the respondent and are presented unedited.

My replies appear under the respondent's comments in blue text and are prefaced by my initials (MB).

(R) Dear felloe truth lover:
You're 100% right: love and philosophy should go together. The problem is that love is an emotion and philosophy is the application of reason.

(MB) It's often difficult to apply reason to love or to develop a valid philosophy based solely on emotion. Many have tried, but few have succeeded in the eyes of more than a few people.

(R) There definately should be a continuing intercourse between the two.
(MB) No pun intended, of course, eh? *grin*

(R) The reason that romance tends to be so self-destructive is because romance is not realistic by definition. People would rather enjoy the dream than risk facing the reality.
(MB) I agree. People have always (and not unsurprisingly) preferred pleasure to pain. It doesn't seem to matter which of those will lead to understanding.

(R) Please take a look at my website and tell me what you think.
(MB) I've provided a link for any reader who should wish to visit your site. It's worth a look!
