Return to "Race Relations" essay

"RACE RELATIONS"

(R) Be careful what you say here. Are you talking about just Americans / Europeans or All cultures. There are many cultures where there is no word for "competition."
(MB) Quite true. However, there have also been many cultures where there has been no word for "zero". The point is that some things still exist whether or not there are words for them. The history of Man, regardless of culture, has not been one of absolute toleration for any and all "different" people. At the most basic level, it has more to do with territorial instincts than any deliberate racism. As the history of Man has unfolded, intolerance has become a part of his various societies. This is especially true when a particular society sees itself as superior to any and all others.
