BEST OF THE BEST SITE Winners
[24 Dec 99] Erratic Impact - Philosophy Research Base
Categorized by history, subject and author, this meta-index integrates text resources with the best online resources. Based upon visitor participation, the Philosophy Research Base serves as both a study guide and a platform for a wide variety of community services for students and teachers in philosophy and related subjects.

[22 Dec 99] QuackWatch
If you've ever wanted to check out any of those too-good-to-be-true wonder remedies, this is the site for you. Given the potential for horrendous harm inherent in bad medicine, the information on this site is of supreme importance. I can't recommend QuackWatch highly enough!

[13 Dec 99] Internet Infidels (The Secular Web)
Without question, the best and most extensive site on the Internet for atheist, agnostic, and freethought essays, articles and papers.

EXCELLENT SITE Winners
[18 Mar 00] Homepage of St. Augustine
This page was produced by order of the society of St. Augustine Research (in german: Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Augustinusforschung) and it deals with the life and works of the church father St. Augustine. It contains database driven catalogs of his works, scientific essays and informations about publications of this topic. The wealth of informations are liven up by interactive applications with the aim to invite the user to learn by "playing" (e.g. interactive maps about the travels auf the holy church father; you can find it in the menu below "Augustinus" (St. Augustine) and "Seine Reisen" (his travels)). Furthermore there are lots of pictures from several epochs about St. Augustine and his works.

[29 Dec 99] Skeptic News
The Skeptic News attempts to help users find recent skeptic-related news by helping those operating skeptic-related web sites to publicize recent changes. In other words, it acts as a "What's New" page for skeptics. The intent is not for users to spend large amounts of time at this site. Instead, this will be a web site which users visit briefly (but frequently) to learn which web sites they should visit today. There are hundreds of web sites out there for the skeptic. This page can help reduce the chances that you will miss something, while at the same time reduce the time spent visiting sites that haven't change. Incidentally, this site is also the home of the Skeptic Ring.

[23 Dec 99] Mythos & Logos
Mythos & Logos is the home page of Brent Dean Robbins, a doctoral student at Duquesne University, and is dedicated to the promotion of existential-phenomenological philosophy, psychology, and literature. There are a great many of his papers posted here along with a wealth of related material.

[22 Dec 99] Academic Resources Channel
This site's objective is to provide free distribution and systematic access to specialized academic resources in all fields of knowledge. If you can't find information here, you're not likely to find it anywhere.

SUPERIOR SITE Winners
[24 Apr 00] Metaphysics by Default
Can metaphysical philosophy be reconciled to naturalism? In this paper, the author argues that it can. The challenge of the reconciliation is shown to lie in finding naturalistic foundations for metaphysical concepts. This paper focuses upon personal identity -- first analyzing the known naturalistic criteria of personal identity; then interpreting the metaphysics which emerges from that analysis. An initial, qualitative metaphysics is discussed and defended. Thereafter, the author quantifies several aggregate metaphysical results. Along the way, a historical precedent is reconstructed from the Arabic writings of Fatimid Hellenists. At the end, the author sets forward the philosophy's potential benefits: contemporary ethical and ecological difficulties are seen to be resolved within the context of this new metaphysics.

[24 Apr 00] Aboriginal (Anishinaabe) Philosophy and Spirituality
An examination of Aboriginal philosophy, spirituality, identity and ethics. The site includes the author's Masters thesis along with other papers, articles, and book reviews.

The Philosopher's Box is a web site designed by a college student and including essays, links, and other material on such topics as religion, philosophy, literature, the government, journalistic ethics, etc. The underlying desire of the webmaster is to persuade the browser to do that thing most feared by public schools throughout the country -- to Think independently.

[29 Dec 99] Family Freethought Alliance
The Family Freethought Alliance is a non-discriminatory social organization that brings people and families together who are interested in living their lives without superstition. FFA respects your intelligence to decide how to live your life, but realizes that most people don't have access to any viewpoint other than a religious one. FFA provides hard-to-find resources, activites and educational forums to counter the exclusion faced by non-believers in a believer's world.
